Car enthusiasts in the Western Cape will
soon have a unique opportunity to put their beloved machines and their
brain power to the test. After seven successful years in Gauteng the
Round Table is finally bringing the Cannonball Run to the fair Cape.
This
televised charity event will see the competitors in various vehicles
compete in different disciplines such as cryptic clue photo rally,
amazing race aspects and sporting events. Contestants depart from an
undisclosed location and then have to make their way to the next
checkpoint by solving a series of clues in a clue book. Each clue is
worth a certain number points and at of the Run these are added to the
contestants score from activities which happen during the run to find
the eventual winner.
The Run really is unique in that it is not
a race but rather a run which pits machine and man against the South
African countryside. The Round Table Cannonball Run Cape is a two day
two night event starting in Cape Town and ending at an undisclosed
venue. Car lovers can expect to see some of the best car’s South Africa
has to offer with everything from Audis, 4x4s, Beetles, Porsches,
Ferraris and Lamborghini’s on show.
In 2009 the Gauteng version of the Run raised R300 000 for various charities and as
part of raising funds for charity, we are running an Auction on Mytrade
where the winning bidder will get to drive around Cape Town for 30min
in a Lamborghini Gallardo!! All monies raised will be Donated to Little
Angels and Cotlands. Bidding Starts on R1, so please Bid on this
amazing oppertunity and support kids in need.
...that's right, you will actually be driving the Lambo!
A group of dedicated individuals wanting to make a difference in the lives of people with Autism climbed Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe Route to summit Uhuru Peak (@ 5895m) between the 20th – 28th November 2009 under the lead of Sean Wisedale. The mission: “To put Autism on Top of Kilimanjaro”!
Mytrade is proud to share their contributions to Autism Western Cape's campaign to raise awareness for Autism. Besides for following the Kilimanjaro journey with a hawks eye on Twitter, Mytrade launched a Charity Auction where the winning bidder had their company logo printed on a flag that was showcased on top of Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak), the highest point in Africa. The idea behind the auction as to raise awareness, as well as funds for kids living with Autism. With 2789 unique visits, the auction went down to the wire and was eventually sold for R12,050 to Digitaldistributors
Mytrade founder, JP van der spuy comments "I have always had the utmost respect for Gerhard Pieterse (the man behind AWC), he dares the impossible and not even the highest free-standing mountain in the World will stop his quest to raise awareness for Autism".
According to Gerhard, the journey was a million times more physically and mentally challenging than he could have ever imagined. "There were times where I doubted my own ability, but thinking of all the millions of kids living with Autism gave me the courage to push forward. After days of rain, snow and grueling winds, the crew finally reached Uhuru Peak at 8:15am Friday morning, 27 November 2009. Lots of tears and man hugs at Stella Point and Uhuru Peak"
Thank You to Autism Western Cape who was willing to support us in turn by showcasing the Mytrade Brand on Top of Kilimanjaro, the highest point on the African continent! Thank you to Zoopy, Afrigator, Sean Wisedale and everyone else who has made this campaign possible.

I was scouting through our Motor section and came across a 2008 Audi S8 V10 For Sale, thought it was a pretty funny so just had to share. From time to time you find these funny listings on Mytrade. Just recently we had a seller auctioning off "snow" (with free shipping nogals!). We had to delete the listing and the seller was very disappointed that we did not allow him to sell snow.... yes, that's correct... He was actually quite serious about the whole snow selling thing and stated "I can send it with speed services in a foamalite container?". I could not stop laughing.
Anyway, the next listing has quite a creative little churp, thought I'd share with our users. check it out!
July 14, 2009 - Today marks the 50th day that Today marks the 50th day that Mytrade launched it’s Social Marketplace and what an experience it has been! We
are close to a 1000 users and still to launch our first marketing
campaign! Upon launching Mytrade, we were well aware that a few bugs
and flaws would surface; hence since the launch we have put our backs
into making the site more userfriendly and getting rid of those early
stage setbacks.
Mytrade also managed to sweep up a Bronze Award at the June 2009 SA Web Awards,
which is only the start of many big things to follow. We have seen
quite a significant increase in traffic and usage on a daily basis, the
feedback has been amazing and we are quite determined to build on that
pace.
As with any early stage Online Start-ups,
Mytrade had quite the knack of putting our patience and diligence to
the test over the last 17 months. Frustration has been something we accepted and learned to deal with in a manner where our passion to
succeed provided a stepping stone for any challenges we had to face.
The project has been financed and developed in-house, which seemed to
be the biggest challenge over the last 17 months!
Mytrade.co.za is only a few days away from launching it’s first sizable marketing
campaign, so check out our promotion page coming soon, spread the word
and get involved. With 728 users and 1683 listings, Mytrade is
surprisingly the second Biggest Online Marketplace in South-Africa,
after only a mere 50 days!
